At the completion of this activity, participants will:
Define the key elements of an acute care iOAT protocol for perinatal persons
Describe the preliminary outcomes, key considerations, and challenges and opportunities of implementing an acute care iOAT protocol in a perinatal setting
Describe the iOAT-APP research study, and preliminary study findings related to mother and infant health outcomes
Presentation Summary: Injectable opioid agonist therapy (iOAT) is an evidence-based treatment option for severe opioid use disorder. However, there is a significant gap in the literature concerning iOAT administration in pregnancy, with no known published studies or practice guidelines. The key elements of a perinatal iOAT protocol implemented in Vancouver, Canada, will be reviewed. Outcomes, key considerations, and challenges and opportunities of implementing an acute care iOAT protocol in a perinatal setting will be discussed. The presenter will describe the objectives, methodologies, and preliminary outcomes of the injectable Opioid Agonist Therapy Administration in a Pregnant or Perinatal Population (“iOAT-APP”) research study.
