At the completion of this activity, participants will:
Identify the key components and steps for implementing an addiction medicine access program
Demonstrate how to use technology to leverage addiction medicine expertise to improve the system of care/ treatment access in one’s state
Describe the complex needs of practices looking to implement office-based prescribing of MOUDs.
Presentation Summary: Prescribers report that systematic barriers and a lack of addiction medicine training prevent the successful incorporation of medications for opioid use disorder (MOUDs) into their practice. The Maryland Addiction Consultation Service (MACS) implemented a statewide addiction medicine access program to integrate addiction treatment services into primary care and specialty practices statewide. Early implementation outcomes provided evidence of its promise as a feasible model for states seeking to increase access to and quality of substance use treatment, especially MOUDs.
