Describe how the State of Maryland has been tackling the opioid crisis at the state, county, local and at the provider level.

In keeping with our conference theme, “The Power of Collaboration,” the Opening Plenary Session will highlight the importance of collaboration among local, state, and federal organizations in addressing the opioid crisis in the United States and at the state level in Maryland. Dr. Kenneth Stoller, Conference Chairperson and Maryland Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence liaison to the American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence will welcome conference attendees and provide an overview of this exciting conference and the varied offerings available. Dr. Stoller will be followed by an incredibly special welcome to Maryland by Robin Rickard, JD, Executive Director, Opioid Operational Command Center (OOCC), State of Maryland. Robin Rickard will also provide some insight into Maryland’s Opioid Operational Command Center, the neutral coordinating body, providing the overall support and responsibility for the management of various activities and tasks with the Maryland Department of Emergency Management as the lead agency. The OOCC uniquely addresses the opioid crisis by bringing together over 20 state agencies who meet regularly and work together to fully address the complexities of the opioid epidemic in Maryland. Mr. Mark Parrino, AATOD President, will provide an overview of the challenges, opportunities, and accomplishments of AATOD since our last conference and will discuss the Association’s plans and strategies for the future, as AATOD collaborates with the many federal and state organizations invested in working on the issues surrounding medications used to treat opioid use disorders. Dr. Rahul Gupta, Director of the United States Office of National Drug Control Policy will conclude by providing an overview of the opioid epidemic throughout the United States and will share some of the collaborative work being done at the federal level to address the overdose and opioid epidemic.
