P3310: I’m Just Trying to Survive: Doctor with Bipolar Disorder Works to Dismantle Barriers

Justin Bullock, MD, MPH, is a first year nephrology fellow who lives with bipolar disorder. By peering through the lens of his relationship with his therapist, Justin will examine how health care providers can leverage our humanity in clinical practice in ways that can be lifesaving. He will discuss his experiences as a bipolar patient and physician, including his psychiatric hospitalizations and suicide attempts during training. He also will describe his efforts to change the culture in medical education and training so they are more supportive and inclusive of those with mental illness.
