Dr. Kumta is Director of Inpatient Pediatrics and Associate Program Director of the Pediatric Residency Program at the Children's Hospital of New Jersey (CHoNJ). She joined Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in July 2017, after having worked for nearly thirteen years as a Pediatric Hospitalist at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey.
She completed a Residency in Pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, Michigan, after obtaining an MBBS degree from Seth G.S. Medical College in Mumbai, India, and had previously been a Private Pediatrician in Mumbai, India, for more than five years.
Dr. Kumta's current activities, reflecting her strong interest in fostering Medical Education, include Teaching Rounds and Board Review Preparation for Pediatric Residents and Medical Students. She runs the Acting Pediatrics Internship Program, for Fourth-Year Medical Students from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, at CHoNJ.
She also leads Community Advocacy activities for its Pediatric Residents. She has been a long-time advocate for Breastfeeding, providing Lactation Management training to Pediatric and OB/GYN Residents. She also works with Nursery and Post-Partum Floor Nurses to promote higher Exclusive Breastfeeding rates.
