Cook Children’s Medical Center is one of the largest children’s hospitals in the nation covering more than 530,000 square feet with 430 licensed beds. Our professional staff of nurses, technologists, therapists and other clinicians work alongside more than 500 physicians who provide primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary levels of pediatric care. They, along with our Child Life staff, chaplains, teachers, social services coordinators and translators work to help our patients and families cope with the stress that accompanies a child’s hospitalization. Our award-winning medical center uses state-of-the-art technology in more than 30 specialties and subspecialties to provide the best care available for every child, every day. For over a decade, Cook Children’s Medical Center has proudly proclaimed that we are a Magnet designated hospital according to the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC). Cook Children’s Medical Center received word on March 21, 2016 that it had once again achieved Magnet® re-designation for our nursing excellence and outstanding patient care. Our initial Magnet® designation occurred in 2006, with our last re-designation in early 2011. Less than 7% of hospitals are Magnet® designated; with less than 1% of hospitals receiving a third consecutive designation – we are among the best. The Medical Center is one of only ten Level II Trauma Centers in Texas and the Emergency Department and Urgent Care Center treat more than 100,000 patients each year. Cook Children’s Teddy Bear Transport Team transports more than 3,706 children annually via ambulance, helicopter or fixed-wing airplane. This team received the national Neonatal/Pediatric Transport Award of Excellence in 2010 and in 2011 it received Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals “Children’s Miracle Achievement Award in recognition of excellence in their field. It is one of the country's largest pediatric transport teams and one of only five neonatal transport teams accredited worldwide from the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services. Cook Children's Global Health Services offers concierge service to families who need to travel from state-to-state or even outside of their home country. Imagine if your child got sick but the right medical care for him/her was out of your state or even half a world away. That puts you in a foreign country trying to understand your child’s care in a language that is not your native language on top of the substantial worry of having a sick child to begin with. Having someone who can help guide you throughout their healthcare system would be a welcome asset. Now reverse the situation and put Cook Children’s in the role of the caregiver for that child from another country. Our team at Global Health Services is in place and actively serves as that “welcome asset” for those families. Global Health Services’ attentive and multilingual team is dedicated exclusively to supporting Out of State and International families, making their experience as smooth and worry-free as possible, both inside and outside the hospital. We don’t only take care of the child; we take care of everything, such as providing concierge-support services – including help with visas, travel arrangements, housing and translation – acting as their guide to the hospital through each stage of the child’s medical journey.
