This presentation will describe: a) 2 behavior change frameworks and a Motivational Interviewing approach, which is a personalized, patient-centered behavioral counseling style of talking; b) share lessons learned from qualitative research with Latino adolescents about their oral health practices and perceptions; and c) describe the role of dental providers in discussing health behavior change and specifically discuss motivating behavior changes to promote oral hygiene and HPV vaccinations. Future directions and suggested applications for training future dental providers will be discussed.
