Pulp Therapy
Clinical Outcomes of palliative pulpectomy therapy for permanent teeth
Soares C, Wong CL (Division of Pediatric Dentistry EIOH, Rochester, NY)
PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to determine the proportion of pediatric patients that completed endodontic therapy after their emergency pulpectomy appointment. It has been observed that the patients of the Division of Pediatric Dentistry at EIOH often choose to save their teeth by having palliative treatment (pulpectomy) completed on a symptomatic permanent tooth diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis. However, it is unknown how many of those patients followed through with endodontic treatment. This retrospective study will include pediatric patients who received conventional pulpectomies during emergency visits in Pediatric Dentistry from June 1, 2020 to June 1, 2021.
Methods: Subjects of this study will include patients with emergency pulpectomy therapy rendered in the Division of Pediatric Dentistry at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health from June 1, 2020 to June 1, 2021. The study population consists of children ages 10-17 years with permanent teeth with closed apices. A retrospective data analysis will be conducted to ascertain the clinical outcomes.
