Sports beverages have more frequently been consumed outside of the sports arena as a daily beverage option. The ingredient composition of these drinks lends for high carbohydrates and acidic components. Because of these addictively tasty ingredients and attractive colors they have become a popular choice for children and adolescents. The mixed and early permanent dentition are left extremely vulnerable to erosion due to not fully mineralized teeth. The combination of frequent sports drinks consumption and hypomineralized teeth leads to increased prevalence of erosion. This case report discusses a 14 year old male who presented for a recall with findings of significant generalized erosion on permanent dentition and generalized decalcification. The cause of the erosion was narrowed to the high consumption of a sports drink. Diagnosis and treatment of the patient will be detailed in this report.
