Patient Management
Introduction: Pierre Robin sequence (PRS) is a syndrome defined by micrognathia, glossoptosis, and upper airway compromised with or without cleft palate. Etiology is still unclear, but 30% of PRS patients have associated genetic syndromes, most commonly Stickler syndrome and velocardiofacial syndrome.
Case report: This presentation discusses a 13 year old female who as Pierre robin sequence as well as Stickler syndrome. The patient had bilateral mandibular distraction osteogenesis when she was 22-day-old. When the patient turned 5, hypoplastic mandibular primary and permanent 1st molars were noted. When the patient was 7, odontoma was noted coronal to #30. When the patient was 9, early extractions of mandibular permanent 1st molars were rendered. This report will include clinical and dental findings associated with Pierre robin sequence, complications of distraction osteogenesis including odontoma, successful early extractions of permanent 1st molars before eruption of permanent 2nd molars, and overall dental management.
