Syndromes/Craniofacial Anomalies
The ectodermal dysplasias are a group of inherited disorders that involve defects of the hair, nails, teeth, and sweat glands. This presentation describes a 9-year-old male with medical history of ectodermal dysplasia and autism. The patient presented with his father for consultation regarding removable dentures to replace his missing teeth at Boston University Pediatric Dental Clinic. Clinical and radiographic examination revealed the absence of all the primary and permanent teeth except the maxillary Right and left second molars. The patient has underdeveloped maxillary and mandibular ridges and Class III ridge relation. This report will include clinical and radiographic findings associated with ectodermal dysplasia, and the treatment provided to the patient with computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) upper partial denture and Lower complete dentures. The successful management of ectodermal dysplasia necessitate multidisciplinary approach with the assistance of advanced dental technology.
