Dr Joe Iwanaga is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and anatomist. Dr. Iwanaga graduated from Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Faculty of Dentistry and received his DDS in 2007. He finished oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program at Kurume University Hospital, Fukuoka, Japan in 2009. In 2016, he received his PhD in Clinical Anatomy from Kurume University School of Medicine, then moved to Seattle, Washington for a clinical anatomy research fellowship. In 2019, Dr Iwanaga was appointed an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Tulane University School of Medicine. In 2022, Dr. Iwanaga was appointed a Professor and Chairman in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Anatomy at Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Tokyo, Japan and holds concurrent position at Tulane University. He has expertise in both oral and maxillofacial surgery and clinical anatomy. He has delivered numerous presentations and is the author of more than 500 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Iwanaga is a Councilor-at-Large of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists since 2018. He is a Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Section editor of the journal Clinical Anatomy. He also acted as an international advisory board of the 7th edition of Netter’s Atlas of Human Anatomy and authored 42nd edition of Gray’s Anatomy.
