Dr. Wilkerson is the Director of Clinical Research and an Assistant Residency Program Director at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), Department of Emergency Medicine. He also serves as the clinical leader of the University of Maryland Medical Center Sickle Cell Disease Program, a multi-disciplinary effort to improve the care of patients with this disease. He is the Co-Chair of the UMMC Opioid Safety Council. He is a Councilor for the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Research, Scholarly Activity, and Innovation Section. He is the co-editor for the Disaster Medicine Section of the Western Journal of Emergency Medicine. He is the Deputy Editor for the journal Clinical Practice and Cases in Emergency Medicine. In 2015, Dr. Wilkerson received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the UMEM Residency Program. In 2016, he was chosen as a National Foundation Emergency Medicine Scholar, a two-year award to support research. This year he was named as a NFEM Mentor. In 2019, he was honored as the Maryland ACEP Clinician of the Year. His research has focused on the opioid epidemic, sickle cell disease, angioedema, and COVID.
