In 1993, Dr. Williams became a founding member and fellow AAEM and has served on its Board of Directors and numerous committees. Most recently, she has served as the Chairman of the International Conference Committee and Vice-Chairman of the JEDI Section. She is also a Master of the Academy. Dr. Williams is a diplomat of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and a Past-Chair of the Emergency Medicine Section of the National Medical Association.
She served Charles R. Drew University (CDREWU) as faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine from 1989-2007. At the time of the closure of Martin Luther King, Jr./Charles R. Drew Medical Center, she was the Emergency Medicine Residency Director. Bedside teaching was her modus operandi. Teaching ECGs from a clinical aspect was another passion of hers. Dr. Williams continues to serve on the faculty of CDREWU whenever possible.
Dr. Williams was an Adjunct Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. She was only the second AA faculty and the first AA woman in the history of the Department of Emergency Medicine at that institution. She as since retired from that institution.
Dr. Williams developed the Medical Response Team for the Far Western Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® in 2009 modeled after the National Medical Response Team.
She has received numerous teaching and nursing recognition awards throughout the years. In 2014, she was awarded The James Keaney Award by the Academy. In that same year, she received The Charlene D. Carodine Unique Professional Achievement Award by the Far Western Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®.
Dr. Williams lectures nationally and internationally on Emergency Medicine, Trauma Resuscitation and Critical Care topics and is published in Emergency Medicine.
