Tips on How to Effectively Deliver Bad News in the Emergency Room

Giving bad news in itself is a challenge - but especially so when you are an emergency medicine doctor. Our training in this topic is often limited and remote. Our relationship with our patient or patient's family is new, and often still lacks the trust or comfort that a more long term relationship would afford. The emergency room is limited in terms of space and time, and other resources that would make the experience of receiving news bad more palatable. During our session, we will develop a toolbox to help us deliver bad news more effectively while on shift.
