Traditional management of severe alcohol withdrawal involves repeated dosing of benzodiazepines until symptoms are well controlled. However, this approach is labor-intensive, inexact, and risks over-sedation and delirium. Phenobarbital avoids most of these risks and provides a quick "one-and-done" approach to rapidly and safely treat severe alcohol withdrawal with a more favorable safety profile. In this lecture, the speaker will describe how to safely integrate phenobarbital into your practice.
