JAMES D. JOHNSON, DDS, MS, FICD, FACD, FPFA
Dr. Johnson is Chair of the Endodontics Department at the School of Dentistry at the University of Washington, and also serves as the Program Director for the Advanced Specialty Education Program in Endodontics at the University of Washington. Dr. Johnson retired from the U.S. Navy Dental Corps in 2003 at the rank of Captain. He is a former Specialty Leader for Endodontics, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery to the Surgeon General of the Navy. He was Chair of the Endodontics Department and Director of the Advanced Specialty Education Program in Endodontics at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School, and also was Chair of the Research Department at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in Bethesda, Maryland. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, and is a past Director of the American Board of Endodontics, and a past President of the American Board of Endodontics. Dr. Johnson served as Interim Dean of the School of Dentistry at the University of Washington from October 2017 to April 2018. The American Association of Endodontists awarded him the 2019 I.B. Bender Lifetime Educator Award. The Naval Postgraduate Dental School awarded the Civism Award Dr. Johnson in 2018. He has published numerous scientific articles and has authored five book chapters, including a chapter in Ingle’s Endodontics, 6th Edition, and a chapter on Endodontic Microsurgery in Current Therapy in Endodontics. Dr. Johnson has lectured both nationally and internationally.
