Abstract: Schwann cells surround the neurons of the peripheral nervous system and possess a regenerative potential. Cell-forming tissue engineering is a promising method for dentin-pulp complex regeneration; however, current protocols have limitations. The aim of the Study was to examine the effect of angiogenic gel on the recruitment of Schwann cell and the regulation of monocytes and macrophages during healing process of injured pulp. Ten, 8 weeks old Wister rats were randomly divided into 2 groups, Pulp exposure and partial pulpotomy of the maxillary posterior teeth were performed. Phosphate buffer saline (PBS) was injected in group 1 and hydrogel (angiogenic gel, SLan) in group 2. Specimens were collected at day 7 and 14 post tooth injury; the sections were stained with H&E and different antibodies. The intensity of the images was measured by “Image J” software, statistical values were analyzed by student t-test. The intensity of pulpal Schwann cell marker, S100 was significantly upregulated in PBS and SLan of injured site compared to non-injured site. Also, SLan significantly increased S100 positive cells in the injured site compared to BPS-injured site. Conclusion: SLan recruits more pulpal Schwann cells in the injured site.
