LTC Joseph M. Dutner received his B.S. in Biology at Marquette University. After graduating with his D.M.D. from Temple University School of Dentistry, he completed a 1-Year AEGD Residency at Fort Benning, GA. Before specializing in Endodontics, he practiced as a general dentist in Grafenwoehr, Germany. He deployed to Mosul, Iraq, serving there as the dental Officer-in-Charge. He received his Endodontic Certificate from the US Army Advanced Education Program in Endodontics at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Following an assignment as the Officer-in-Charge of a dental clinic at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, he taught Endodontics in the 1-Year AEGD Residency at Fort Benning, GA. After serving as the Assistant Program Director of the US Army Advanced Education Program in Endodontics at Fort Gordon, Georgia for 2 years, he became its Program Director in 2018. He is an Associate Professor of Endodontics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He was selected as the Endodontic Deputy Consultant to The Surgeon General. He is currently pursuing his Masters in Health Professions Education. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and a member of the American Association of Endodontists, the American Dental Association, and the American Dental Education Association.
