Dr. Griggs earned his PhD in Materials Science & Engineering under the guidance of Kenneth J. Anusavice at the University of Florida. He rose from Assistant Professor to full Professor, Vice-Chair, and Graduate Program Director over 9 years at Texas A&M Health Science Center and then moved to University of Mississippi Medical Center to serve as Chair of Biomedical Materials Science and then Associate Dean for Research. He has served as the PI of 5 NIH R01 grants, 1 HRSA grant, and 7 industry-sponsored grants (totaling more than $7M). He has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles, 6 book chapters, and 2 patents. He is a Fellow and former President of the Academy of Dental Materials and was selected as teacher-of-the-year out of over 1,400 faculty members on his campus.
