SP-7 - From Bench to Clinic - Understanding Regenerative Endodontic Outcomes from a Histological View

Regenerative endodontics (RegEndo) is one of the most exciting new developments in endodontics. It is expected to physiologically replace damaged tooth structures, including dentin and root structures, as well as cells of the pulp-dentin complex. However, the clinical outcomes vary from case to case. Three treatment goals were proposed by Dr. Diogenes in 2017, such as the resolution of the radiolucency and the patients’ symptoms; continuous root development; and regaining pulp vitality. What could be the reasons that the same clinical procedure would achieve different outcomes? What could be happening in each category of the treatment goals? For an individual patient, which category of the outcomes could be expected from RegEndo? To answer these questions, bench research and animal study are essential. Understanding regenerative endodontic outcomes from a histological view will greatly help us to set up treatment plans, select clinical procedures, and make individual prognoses for our patients.
