Abstract: Cortical auditory evoked potentials (CAEPs) evaluate access to auditory stimuli at the cortex. Historically, CAEPs have not been used clinically to evaluate and monitor a child’s auditory function. Hearts for Hearing, however, acquired a system that allows clinicians to overcome obstacles and implemented a protocol for CAEP testing. Our clinicians use CAEPs to estimate auditory access primarily for children with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD), children pre- and post-cochlear implantation, and children for whom behavioral audiometry cannot yet be reliably completed. In this presentation, we will discuss CAEPs, populations for whom testing may be appropriate, current literature, and case studies.
