ANDREW HARTWICK is an Associate Professor at The Ohio State University College of Optometry. Before arriving at OSU, he did postdoctoral training at Colorado State University, where he began investigating how light-sensitive retinal ganglion cells contribute to the regulation of circadian rhythms in mammals. He completed his Ph.D. degree in Anatomy at Dalhousie University (Halifax, Nova Scotia), an O.D. degree and a M.Sc. degree in Vision Science at the University of Waterloo (Waterloo, Ontario), and a B.Sc. degree in Biology at Lakehead University (Thunder Bay, Ontario). Dr. Hartwick also worked as an associate optometrist at private optometric practices in Brantford, Ontario and Halifax, Nova Scotia during his graduate training. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the Optometric Glaucoma Society. He has received funding from the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense and his research interests include the physiology of ganglion cell photoreceptors, pupillary function and the mechanisms underlying photophobia associated with brain injury. He is co-chair of the Vision Research Sub-Committee of Ohio’s Aging Eye Public Private Partnership and serves on the Board of the Ohio Affiliate of Prevent Blindness.
