RP206 - The Relationship Between Hearing Loss and Physical Activity: A Systematic Review of the Literature

Abstract: The purpose of this investigation was to systematically identify, assess, and analyze the evidence regarding the relationship between hearing loss and physical activity among older adults, and whether hearing instrument (HI) use affects physical activity among older adults. The evidence gathered in this review suggest that hearing loss is associated with higher likelihood of physical inactivity in older adults. Associations between hearing loss and other factors related to physical functioning were also observed. Additionally, limited but recent studies indicate a possible protective effect of HI use against physical inactivity and mobility limitations in older adults with hearing loss.
