Abstract: Clinical staff working in private practice are assumed proficient in a variety of skills based on credentials, and yet demonstrate tremendous variability in terms of training, experience and exposure to protocols and equipment. One documented area of variability is Real Ear Measurement (REM) where limited exposure, proficiency or adherence to best practices results in a risk of suboptimal fittings due to poor probe tube placement or match to target. Through a multiple case study approach on 22 subjects, this study demonstrates the feasibility of using a patient simulator in private practice to support coaching opportunities and establishing baseline proficiency.
