Mariana Mejia Turnbull is a fourth-year doctoral student in the Audiology (Au.D.) program at the City University of New York Graduate Center. Originally from Mexico, Mariana worked for several years as an audiologist before beginning her doctorate in NYC. Her passion for audiology began in her undergraduate Human Communication Disorders program at the Universidad de las Americas in Mexico City. She received a Bachelor’s of Science with honorary mention and went on to complete a Master’s of Science in Audiology from The University of Manchester. Mariana has since worked at multiple clinics in Mexico servicing a variety of age groups and populations in addition to teaching courses at Universidad de las Americas. For several years she taught aspiring speech language pathologists foundational audiological concepts and the assessment, treatment and management of children with hearing loss.
Currently, Mariana is completing her clinical audiology residency at NYU Langone Cochlear Implant Center. Her time is split with the general audiology clinic where she follows a range of diagnoses and hearing technologies in a fast-paced environment. Mariana aspires to strengthen her knowledge and clinical skills to support underrepresented Hispanic communities to maximize their awareness and long-term outcomes.
