Virginia Driscoll, PhD, MT-BC is assistant professor of Music Therapy at East Carolina University. Prior to joining ECU, Dr Driscoll was a research specialist from 2004-2019 for the Music Perception Team at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Cochlear Implant Clinical Research Center where she coordinated research for adults and children with cochlear implants related to music perception, supervised undergraduate and graduate students in research protocol and delivery, and collaborated with Audiologists and Speech-language pathologists in research and clinical applications of music.
Dr. Driscoll is an active researcher and clinician whose interests include delivery of music therapy for children with hearing loss and speech-language delays in collaboration with audiologists and speech-language pathologists, understanding the perception of music by adults and children with cochlear implants, hearings aids, and other assistive listening devices, creating rehabilitation tools for adults and adolescents to improve their music perception and enjoyment, and using Patient-Centered Outcomes Research in music therapy and research. She has presented at regional, state, national, and international conferences and serves as Editor for Book Reviews for Dialogues in Music Therapy Education. Her publications can be found in journals including Journal of Music Therapy, Music Therapy Perspectives, Ear and Hearing, Cochlear Implants International, and Journal of the American Academy of Audiology.
