Kailyn McFarlane is a fourth-year PhD Candidate in the Communication Sciences and Disorders program at Northwestern University. Her training holds an emphasis in Hearing Science, and she has been a member of the Central Auditory Physiology Laboratory under Dr. Jason Sanchez for the past four years. Her research involves identifying mechanisms that play a role in speech perception in noise difficulty for individuals with normal hearing, with a focus on temporal processing.
Kailyn has a strong background in electrophysiology. She completed her undergraduate honors thesis under Dr. Barbara Cone, assessing cortical evoked potentials and their relationship to speech perception in noise. She has continued her electrophysiology training under Dr. Jason Sanchez, with a focus on auditory brainstem response and electrocochleography. In addition to her primary research, Kailyn has a passion for contributing to the improvement of electrophysiological methods in the field of audiology, as she recognizes and appreciates the tests' utility across many clinical populations.
Upon completion of her PhD, Kailyn looks forward to continuing her contribution to audiological research and the improvement of clinical practices involving electrophysiology and speech perception in noise.
