Abstract: Acoustic coupling decisions (e.g., venting, dome type, etc.) are some of the most important choices a clinician will make when fitting a hearing aid. Clinicians must balance the best possible acoustic experience with the patient’s comfort and willingness to use the device. By understanding a few underlying acoustic properties associated with acoustic coupling in hearing aids, clinicians can better predict and explain why a particular coupling selection is best for a given patient. This learning module will show how clinicians can benefit from a better understanding of acoustic properties, and will focus on pragmatic aspects related to hearing aid fittings.
