Abstract: The perception of tinnitus may be triggered by a reduction in inhibitory function throughout the central auditory nervous system, including at the subcortical and cortical levels. This research will describe: (1) auditory evoked potential (AEP) indices of subcortical and cortical inhibition that distinguished between a group with tinnitus and non-tinnitus controls matched for age, hearing, and sex, and (2) the relative influence of tinnitus presence and tinnitus-related factors (e.g. hearing loss) on AEP outcomes that reflect inhibition.

Learning Objectives:

Describe subcortical and cortical auditory evoked potential (AEP) indices of reduced inhibition, identify AEPs sensitive to tinnitus presence, evaluate the relative influence of tinnitus and tinnitus-related characteristics on AEPs.
