Abstract: Many children who start wearing behind-the-ear (BTE) devices eventually transition to receiver-in-the-canal (RIC) technology. Although there is a general age range of what is considered acceptable for changing to RICs, some children are able to transition sooner, while some are unsuccessful until adulthood. Case studies regarding the age of transition from BTE to RIC will be discussed. Patterns of success and red flags will be highlighted.

Choose RIC technology features that make for a smoother transition from BTE to RIC technology.
Demonstrate how you would counsel a parent who wants RIC technology for a patient that their child is not ready yet.
