Abstract: Hearing loss is inherently traumatic. An audiologist has a unique opportunity to address their patients’ trauma through a better grasp of neuroscience. Neuroscience is not new. There are many psychotherapy models that use Magda Arnold’s research regarding how emotion is processed in the body. Audiologists may think they need hours of training or a psychology expert to adequately serve their patients’ needs. However, neuroscience is surprisingly accessible. This session will equip audiologists with a basic grasp of neuroscience, helping them develop compassionate patient care that is tailored to a patients’ emotional needs.
Learning Objectives:
Use the acronym CAPRA to identify how emotion is processed in the body.
Identify at least one practical application of neuroscience into patient interactions that require more than words.
List resources for integrating principles of neuroscience to patient care.
