Audiologists are equally qualified to attenuate sound as they are to amplify it. Behind presbycusis, noise-induced hearing loss is the most common cause of hearing loss in the world, and it is entirely preventable given appropriate knowledge of risk and use of protective devices. This lecture will provide audiologists with accessible tools to quickly calculate a patient’s risk of noise-induced hearing loss, and a step by step guide for selection, fit, verification, and billing of audiologist-prescribed hearing protection devices.
