This session will focus on discussing the way that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been incorporated effectively into modern hearing aids to deliver benefits for speech intelligibility and sound quality. That said, AI is not a panacea, and the combination of automated processing and human engagement remains the best way to optimize performance. Discussion will focus on definitions, results of recent research studies, and clinical implications for the technology, both today and tomorrow.
Learning Objectives:
Define (and differentiate) artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and deep neural networks for hearing aid applications.
Identify the ways (and WHYs) machine learning, in combination with listener intent, may be used to deliver superior patient outcomes to AI alone.
Identify clinical tools that may assist in selection and fitting of AI-enabled hearing aids to optimize results for individual hearing aid users.
