(PP403) Multi-Disciplinary Communication in an Age of Large Hospital Groups and Electronic Medical Records

Abstract: Communication with professional colleagues outside of audiology and otolaryngology is minimal in the world of electronic medical records (EMRs) and hospital systems.  This poster presentation will explain methods to communicate the importance of multi-disciplinary medicine to audiologists and audiology students.  This skill set enables students to build relationships with other professionals, convey important information to the health care team, and improve healthcare for our patients.

Summary: 

Communication between healthcare providers is a problem, especially in the age of large health systems and electronic medial records. This presentation will show approaches to foster professional relationships that matter to our patients.  Cover letters, email templates and conversational texts will be shown and discussed.  The goal of this presentation is to encourage communication between health care providers and open discussions regarding shared patients. Shared communication can help facilitate better care for our patients, professional development, networking, practice development and (quite possibly) increased job satisfaction.
