Sophia Kim, M.Ed., is the director of the Science Learning Institute at Foothill College where she is committed to advancing diversity and equity in STEM. Sophia has a bachelor’s degree from Williams College where she double-majored in biology and history and a master’s degree in education from the University of Massachusetts Boston with a focus on multicultural education at the secondary level. Her professional path has focused on education equity and youth work – she started off as an ESL teacher and then moved into after school leadership youth programs in the Boston area. She moved to the Bay Area about 10 years ago for a change of weather and scenery, and she moved into higher education, first at Stanford University in a public service program and now at Foothill College.
