Program Abstract: Presentation will focus on broad-based policy changes recently implemented at the institutional level at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) that will affect faculty as well as students in STEM departments. While the focus of this submission is STEM faculty and students, the vast majority of actions undertaken benefit faculty across all schools at the university. Specifically, this presentation will focus on four initiatives: 1) changes in promotion and tenure guidelines, 2) departmental enhancement grants (DEGs) made possible by the ADVANCE grant funded by the National Science Foundation, 3) a $30 million investment at Indiana University for faculty diversity hiring, and 4) SEIRI Seed Grants (SSGs) funded by the STEM Education Innovation and Research Institute (SEIRI). The first three affect faculty climate and hiring, and the last one is meant to improve students’ learning environment through project-based faculty development. The presenter is directly involved in three of the initiatives.
