Program Abstract: Trinity Washington University recently implemented a pilot program where we, a primarily undergraduate Minority-Serving Institution, created a community of practice with Johns Hopkins University, a research-intensive Predominantly White Institution, with the intended goal of creating and strengthening diverse, inclusive, and equitable pathways to and through STEM graduate education. This program uses a cohort framework and creates an authentic research experience for students from minoritized populations, with a focus on mentorship and other inclusive practices such as culturally responsive teaching, embedded support, and community building. Some of the proposed activities consist of course-based undergraduate research modules, faculty development training specific for creating inclusive research environments, and a summer research experience for Trinity students. We anticipate that this program will set the tone to mitigate barriers such as racism, discrimination, and bias through institutional culture transformation.
