Program Abstract: Over the past five years, two distinct but similarly structured NSF S-STEM projects have been ongoing at a primarily undergraduate institution in the Pacific Northwest. Due to demonstrated successes within these projects, some of their embedded structures recently have been expanded and set up for institutionalization beyond the grant period. However, only anecdotal reports of these efforts have been shared so far. The proposed innovation/ideation reflects initial ideas for designing and carrying out a systematic study of how/the extent to which lessons learned from these projects have influenced change at the departmental and/or institutional levels. A multistage qualitative research design is anticipated, describing the landscape of current and planned project-derived activities and their perceived value in supporting students’ development and success. The conference session will explore these ideas and solicit feedback from others regarding assessing broader impacts and sustainability for projects focused on broadening participation among STEM undergraduates.
