Program Abstract: Providence College is committed to using institutional data to promote inclusive excellence in STEM. We identify areas of concern to address discrepancies in student achievement and encourage faculty to adopt inclusive teaching practices. Using data from first-year students across five years, we obtained a snapshot of current trends and outcomes for our STEM majors. We found a discrepancy between White students and students of color DWFI rates in introductory courses. Motivated and informed by these data, faculty were invited to attend a virtual conference in which alternative grading approaches were discussed. Following the conference, interested faculty participated in an on-campus workshop where they could make progress on designing alternative grading approaches in their STEM courses that have been shown to be more equitable. In this session, we will present the preliminary results of this effort. This work is supported by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute IE3 Learning Community.
