Professor Thierry de Baère was born in 1962 in Paris.
1990 joining the Gustave Roussy Cancer Institute in Villejuif, France, one of the world leaders in cancer care and the largest health centre dedicated to oncology in France. It is also the first cancer centre to have its own dedicated IR department, headed by Thierry de Baère since 2003.
special research interests are tumour ablation, portal vein embolisation, intra-arterial therapies for liver cancer, local immunotherapy delivery. His clinical work has been dedicated to the minimally invasive treatment of liver, lung and kidney tumours. First radiofrequency ablation carried out as early as 1996 and has since led many significant studies and contributed publications on the treatment. Professor de Baère has contributed over 270 peer-reviewed scientific publications, cited more than 6000 times in many high level secondary articles. He is on the editorial board for European Radiology and Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology and is a reviewer for Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, European Journal of Cancer and Journal of Hepatology.
Prof. de Baère has been a valuable and active member of CIRSE since 1993. He served as Chairperson of the Standards of Practice Committee from 2007-2009 and as Deputy Chairperson of the European Conference on Interventional Oncology (ECIO) in 2012 and 2013, before chairing the conference in 2014 and 2015. He has served as a member of the CIRSE Foundation Advisory Council and member of the Oncology Alliance Task Subcommittee of CIRSE and recieb-ved the gold medal from CIRSE.
