Amelie Reigl, the early career representative of the ETRS, studied at the University of Würzburg, Germany, since 2014. After the bachelor thesis at Professor Andreas Friebe at the Institute of Physiology, in 2018, she started her own project to combine the basic research at the Institute of Physiology (Dr. Dieter Groneberg) with the applied science at the Chair of Regenerative Medicine (TERM) of the UniversityHospital and Fraunhofer ISC (Dr. Florian Groeber-Becker), Unit Würzburg. Which led to a
master thesis: The immunhistological comparison of the role of NO-GC in murine and human skin as well as 3D full thickness skin equivalents (FTSE). Followed by the PhD Project, which she started in early 2021 at TERM/ISC. She is part of the Research Training Group 2157 infection biology and her scientific focus of her research is the optimization of 3D in vitro FTSE by forming a complex and vascularised in vitro skin using iPSC-derived organoids for infection studies. In her research project, she combines interdisciplinary fields using methods from stem cell biology, infection biology, tissue engineering as well as biomaterials and melt electro
writing with collaboration partners to develop a complex perfusable vascularized in vitro skin as test system for infection studies with trypanosomes brucei. Beside this, she is involved with a project to develop skin organoids at the Fraunhofer Project Center for Stem Cell Process Engineering and works as operative researcher at the Covid-19 project OrganoStrat together with the Charité Berlin.
Furthermore, Amelie Reigl has built up her own business during the pandemic in 2020. She is successfully doing science communication on social media platforms like TikTok (+430.000 Follower), Instagram (+25.000 Follower), LinkedIn and Twitter. Working together with partners like the federal government of Germany, Free State of Bavaria as well as industry partners like 3M, Sanofi, Merck, Eppendorf etc., she is the leading German female science communicator of these platforms. Aim of this project is to make science visible and interesting for non-researchers and everybody who likes science but have no access. The pandemic has shown that there is a huge work to do to communicate science to everybody.
