Session Description: The dental team can play an integral role in behavioral health care for their patients. National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA) piloted the integration of behavioral and oral health (IBOH) through a national learning collaborative with community health centers. The goal was to develop systems to allow the dental team to conduct behavioral health screenings in dental clinic, create bi-directional referrals systems, and provide more compassionate and comprehensive health care. This session will describe the findings from the first two cohorts of the IBOH Learning Collaborative including lessons learned, promising practices, and strategies to implement behavioral health and oral health integration programs. The session will also describe the four systems needed for successful integration: Training Systems, Health IT Systems, Clinical Care Systems, and Evaluation Systems. Finally, the session will feature Community Health Centers of South Central Texas to share how they’ve integrated behavioral and oral health.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the four systems for integrating oral health and behavioral health.
Describe the role of dental providers in behavioral health care.
Share lessons learned from community health centers who implemented behavioral health and oral health integration programs.
