Pediatric dentistry and public health intertwine in numerous ways. Yet, few examples clearly outline ways to integrate graduate training in these fields. The evolution from disease or procedure-driven care to health or value-driven care makes training programs focused on population health invaluable. Here, we describe the planning and implementation processes and early outcomes of two programs to train pediatric dental residents in population health approaches, one of which also directly improves access to care and health equity. The first program is a portable school-based dental clinic, which followed robust COVID-19 protocols set by the hospital Epidemiology department and careful site selection based on a feasibility, need, and community partner relationships. This roundtable discussion will include our list of stakeholders, our process for implementation, preliminary patient care outcomes, our status related to teledentistry implementation, and program evaluation by trainees. The second program is an integrated MS-MPH dual degree program, approved by both the university and CODA in summer 2021. In its first year, 13 applicants sent letters of interest for the one funded position. For the second year, 12 applicants have sent letters of interest. We will discuss the stakeholders involved, the process for approvals, the curriculum which includes didactic, clinical, experiential, synchronous, and asynchronous components, and trainee evaluations.
