This roundtable will provide an in depth update for attendees on the ADA Community Dental Health Coordinator (CDHC) program as well as the strongly emerging market recognition of dental case management in addressing the social determinants of health in a variety of settings.
Roundtable attendees will be briefed on the specific community health worker skills offered to dental professionals as part of the online program, grant opportunities through effective data collection, and will hear many graduate success stories in expanding access to care through addressing social barriers in order to reduce oral health disparities in their communities.
Educational pathways for the CDHC program now include an FQHC, a dental school hygiene program, several community colleges and a major federal agency which will soon offer the program as continuing education to their almost 3000 dental staff. Program length, tuition costs and the community demonstration project design will be discussed.
Non-dental professionals now have a way to enter the program as well, through a "Dental 101" online oral health orientation program which is offered through a community college which has over 10 years of experience with the CDHC program. This newly developed pathway gives additional leverage within the case management landscape to address the social determinants of health and their impact on oral health status of underserved populations.
