Session Description: In 2020, COVID-19 brought telehealth to the forefront of health care delivery. Teledentistry has become an emerging strategy to increase access to oral health care. The National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA) has worked with community health centers since spring 2020 to implement and improve processes for synchronous teledentistry. This session will highlight how community health centers have innovated and adapted oral health care delivery with teledentistry. NNOHA will share strategies and resources to implement teledentistry, including highlights from NNOHA’s Teledentistry User’s Guide published in August 2021. This session will feature Petaluma Health Center from California, which has innovated a program using teledentistry to increase access to diagnostic and preventive dental care for young children.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the different types of teledentistry.
Discuss how community health centers implemented teledentistry for emergency and preventive dental services.
Learn how Petaluma Health Center uses teledentistry to increase access to care for their patients.
Identify resources, including the NNOHA Teledentistry Users Guide, and sample teledentistry workflow.
Discuss teledentistry applications for patients with Special Health Care Needs (SHCN).
