Session Description: A 2018 Surgeon General initiative to develop a report on oral health resulted in the publication of the 2021 National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) report: Oral Health in America: Advances and Challenges. This report illuminates new directions in prevention and treatment of oral disease, identifies disparities and inequalities in oral health care, and proposes innovative strategies for ensuring all Americans share equally in the benefits of oral health. A significant section of this report is dedicated to addressing oral health for older adults and the aging. It is critical that the challenges presented be understood in order to advance the oral health of older adults through proposed changes and implemented strategies.
