Session Description: As the COVID-19 pandemic turned our world on its head, the programmatic and funding priorities of many foundations and public agencies shifted sharply and suddenly. Oral health advocacy coalitions, while considering how to support the urgent health care needs of their communities, also had to determine the implications of the pandemic for their own financial sustainability and fund-development strategies. During this seminar, leaders of the American Network of Oral Health Coalitions (ANOHC) will share: (1) the impact of the pandemic on coalitions' funders’ priorities and their own fund-development strategies; (2) traditional and non-traditional approaches to fund-development and contracting models that can bolster an organization’s financial resilience in times of crises; and (3) alternative ways of packaging and marketing an advocacy’s core competencies and offerings to appeal to a wider range of funders. Lessons and guidance will benefit non-profit organizations working in the oral health and related fields.
Learning Objectives:
Gain a strong understanding of various approaches that oral health advocacy organizations have used to develop short- and long-term funding from diverse sources during a time of crisis.
Gain a strong understanding of how to develop a portfolio of funding that is more likely to be resilient to unexpected crises or needs.
Learn how to engage key stakeholders, including board members, in long-term fund-development strategies effectively.
Gain skills and an awareness of tools available to support the pursuit of both traditional and non-traditional sources of non-profit funding.
