It is often said that you cannot improve what you cannot measure, and this statement applies no less to environmental justice than to other environmental performance goals. Today, companies are seeking ways to meaningfully incorporate measurable environmental justice goals and practices into their existing systems of environmental management and reporting. This discussion will explore approaches to environmental justice benchmarking, outline relevant environmental justice metrics, and address how environmental justice fits into external reporting and transparency tools, such as ESG reporting and the Securities and Exchange Commission’s proposed climate reporting rule.
