Karen leads the Codes and Standards Program for the Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN), which supports local governments on designing and implementing energy policies as well as energy code compliance and enforcement. Prior to joining BayREN, she worked as a city planner for nearly two decades and led a wide variety of projects, ranging from housing elements to specific plans to CEQA analyses. Karen has also conducted research on recovery from natural disasters, edited a journal, and herded wild ponies, and she holds degrees from Williams College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
